VIDEOCRUNCH 2.0 is funding the creation of THREE SHORT FILMS that embrace the look and feel of INTERNET VIDEOS.
Well - think about the media you interact with online. YouTube Vlogs? Vine Compilations?? Twitch Livestreams??? Cooking Tutorials???? We love all of it! And WE want to give YOU $$$ to MAKE IT!!!
VIDEOCRUNCH 2.0 is a sequel to VIDEOCRUNCH, an event curated by Arie Verheul-van de Ven, Adam Bovoletis and NUMUS Concerts in early 2020. This time Arie and Adam are curating it without NUMUS, but NUMUS will remain in the hearts of us all!
In the show, a group of musicians improvised live atop a curated selection of six short films. Then, a Video Improvisor (that’s right!) took the six short films and re-mixed moments from each of them, joining the musicians in a wild Video/Music Improvisation Extravaganza. It was so cool.
For VIDEOCRUNCH 2.0, we’re moving the event online! In doing so, we’re looking to curate a selection of shorts that embrace the kinds of video works that you would typically interact with online.
Your proposal can be a straight up version of one of these works, or perhaps a parody, subversion, or a loving tribute to your favourite type of internet media. Or whatever else! Artists are continuously pushing the boundaries of filmmaking online, and we want to celebrate that. So go wild! Or don’t go wild! The proposal is up to you! But…
In the first half of the show, your video will be screened in its entirety as the musicians perform live improvisations. We encourage the use of sound in your work, but for the purposes of the show, be conscious that live music will be performed atop of it. So maybe keep music out of your piece for now (or at least use it very sparingly).
In the second half of the show, your work will be spliced up and remixed alongside the other two shorts. Your images and sounds will be taken out of context and used in conjunction with other images to create new meaning. It’s really cool, and a unique way to interact with a group of short films, but you should certainly be aware that that’s what’s going to happen.
You can do whatever you want with your short following VIDEOCRUNCH 2.0, but we ask that you hold off posting it until after the performance.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
You will be paid $200 for the creation of your short.
The show will be held on February 20th, 2021.
We will notify chosen filmmakers by December 7th, and you will have until February 1st to complete your short.
Your short should be approximately 3 - 6 minutes long (but if it needs to be a bit longer, that’s cool. Just let us know.)
Deadline to submit a proposal is December 1st.
